CLES 'Be the Change' students create Sandy Stash for the community

This past summer, a group of community volunteers came together to install the new Sandy Stash at the entrance to Twin Bays Beach. Inspired by Leah Dorion’s The Giving Tree, this “borrow, play, return” cabinet invites families to enjoy a collection of beach toys, children’s life jackets, and even books for adults to relax with while spending time by the water.
The idea is simple: borrow an item, return it when you’re done, and if you can, donate something in good condition for others to enjoy. Whether it’s a spare toy, a gently used book, or a life jacket, each contribution helps keep the Sandy Stash stocked and welcoming for everyone.
This project was led by the Be the Change student group at Canyon Lister Elementary School, with the guidance of staff members Ms. Rachel, Mr. Ewashen, Mrs. Ewashen and Ms. DeBoon. A big thank you also goes out to Sullivan Stone, Home Hardware, the Town of Creston, and the Twin Bays community for their support. Special appreciation goes to Mr. No and his woodworking students at Kootenay River Secondary School, who built the cabinet with skill and care.
The Sandy Stash is a wonderful example of students, schools, and the community coming together to create something lasting for everyone to enjoy at beautiful Twin Bays Beach.
