Honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day at CLES

Our school community came together to recognize and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day through a variety of learning experiences focused on the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. Many students and staff wore red and orange to honour the day and show their support for Indigenous communities.

Throughout the day, classes visited CLES's Indigenous Education room, where students participated in discussions about the significance of National Indigenous Peoples Day and engaged in age-appropriate learning through stories, videos, and cultural teachings.

As part of a collective reflection activity, students created Métis-inspired dot art on rocks. They also had the opportunity to sample pemmican while listening to traditional fiddle and jig music, providing a meaningful connection to Indigenous culture and traditions.

Huge thank you to both Ms. Dawn and Ms. Megan, our Indigenous Support Workers, for planning a wonderful day of learning, reflection, and celebration.
