Honouring Remembrance Day

On November 10th, our school community gathered for a meaningful and heartfelt Remembrance Day assembly. It was a time to reflect, learn, and honour all those who have served and continue to serve.

We were grateful to welcome members of the local Army Cadets: Master Corporal Huscroft and Cadet Huscroft who supported our ceremony as colour-bearers and helped uphold the spirit of remembrance.  Special thanks to Army Cadet Captain Gin Bergman.

We also extend our appreciation to our guest musicians. Bagpipe player Brian O’Neal, who opened the ceremony with a powerful and moving performance on the bagpipes, and Poul Christensen, who played a reflective and beautifully delivered Last Post and Rouse on the bugle and trumpet. Their contributions added a depth of tradition and solemnity that helped formalize the ceremony and create a meaningful atmosphere for our students.

Ms. Megan, CLES’s new Indigenous Support Worker, shared an important history of Indigenous Veterans Day. Her words helped our students understand the contributions and sacrifices made by Indigenous soldiers throughout Canada’s history.

Thank you to our CLES student speakers and wreath layers: Aubree, David, Grace, Kendra, Leighton and Maison.  Each student presented with clarity, respect and maturity, helping to make the ceremony truly meaningful for our school community.  Thank also to Ms. Danforth’s and Ms. Adams’s classes for setting up and decorating the gym, helping create a respectful and welcoming space for the assembly.

We are proud of our students and grateful to all who contributed to this important moment of remembrance. Lest we forget.
