Kindergarten Math Comes Alive in the School Forest

Our kindergarten students took their math learning outdoors as they headed to the school forest to build ten-frames using natural materials. Sticks, stones, leaves, and pinecones became tools for learning as students worked together to create frames and fill them to represent different numbers.

Learning math in nature made the experience fun, engaging, and meaningful. Students practiced counting, number recognition, and problem solving while enjoying fresh air and teamwork. The forest provided the perfect classroom for hands-on learning, curiosity, and creativity.

This outdoor activity showed how math can happen anywhere and how learning is even more powerful when students can explore, move, and connect with nature.
