National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2025

On September 29th, we marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation together at CLES. This day is a time for us to learn, reflect, and honour the survivors of Residential Schools, their families, and the children who never came home.
At our school assembly, Ms. Danforth’s class led the learning, sharing about important Indigenous leaders who have worked for truth, healing, and justice; such as Justice Murray Sinclair — who led the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and reminds us: “Although the terrible things in the past can’t be changed, we as people — students, teachers, families — have the power to make the future kinder and more fair.”
Students also reflected on the importance of Orange Shirt Day, which began from the story of Phyllis Webstad. Wearing orange helps us remember that every child matters.
This year’s assembly reminded us that reconciliation is not only about remembering the past but also about how we choose to live today — with respect, kindness, and a commitment to justice. Together, we continue to learn and take steps toward a more caring future.
