Superintendent's Report - October 2025

It’s a month into the 2025-2026 school year and a beautiful autumn is upon us. Learning happened this past month inside the classroom, through online learning, and outside the classroom in hallways, gymnasiums, and parks; on roads, rivers and bikes.
If there’s a common thread that runs through this report, it’s the optimism, ingenuity, and commitment to learning that SD8 educators, support staff, students and education partners in SD8 show every day in the work they do.
An enthusiasm for teaching, learning and supporting one another combines to deepen community connections and help students understand how what they learn applies to the world around them. Examples include Canyon-Lister Elementary students raising over a thousand dollars during the recent Terry Fox Run for cancer research, and students and staff helping to design a beautiful mural at Rosemont Elementary.
September ended with all SD8 staff and students marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day to honour the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
Read about a “Reconciliation Wall” at L.V. Rogers Secondary that is designed to encourage and inspire staff and students to take actions big and small that deliver on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action.
You can also enjoy the images of Redfish Elementary students gathered in the gym and on school grounds to honour and deepen their understanding of Indigenous peoples in this beautiful land where each of us seek to live, learn and thrive together.
Warmly,
Trish
