A Sweet Lesson in Quebec Culture: Making Tire d'érable

Image

Recently, our Grade 5, 6, and 7 French Immersion class had the pleasure of welcoming a special guest – a parent who shared the wonderful Quebec cultural tradition of making tire d'érable, also known as maple taffy. This hands-on lesson was not only educational but also a delicious treat for everyone involved.

The students eagerly participated in the process, learning how to pour hot maple syrup onto fresh snow to create this classic Canadian confection. They watched in awe as the syrup quickly hardened into a chewy, sweet delight. The excitement was palpable as they rolled their own maple taffy onto sticks and savored the sugary goodness.

This experience was a fantastic way for the students to connect with Quebec culture and practice their French language skills in a fun and engaging setting. The joy on their faces as they enjoyed their homemade tire d'érable was truly heartwarming.

We are grateful to the parent who took the time to share this tradition with us, creating a memorable and tasty learning experience for our students.
