Transforming Ocean Waste into Beauty: Our Buoy Planters Project

We're excited to share our latest project in collaboration with the Ocean Legacy Foundation, an organization dedicated to ocean cleanup and education. Co-founded by James Middleton, a local from Creston and the son of one of our EAs, Ocean Legacy recovers plastics from the ocean and repurposes them into useful products such as plastic lumbar and park benches.
Recently, James and his team recovered buoys that couldn't be repurposed into other plastic products. Instead, they transformed these buoys into hanging planters by cutting and drilling holes in them. CLES's Be The Change students are now painting these buoys to make them beautiful, and soon we'll be planting seeds in them.
We plan to sell these hanging baskets at a farmer’s market in May, with proceeds going to Ocean Legacy to support their cleanup efforts. This project not only helps the environment but also brings our community together in a creative and meaningful way. Stay tuned for more updates and be sure to support us at the market!
