Spaghetti for Sea Protection
Each class at Canyon-Lister Elementary works on a UNESCO project, selecting as a class an issue that they would like to learn more about, and then they take action to make a positive change.
This month Ms. Ziefflie's Grade 1-2 class has been learning about the importance of water for all living things. They have collaborated with our Be the Change club to raise money for the Emerald Sea Protection Society.
The Emerald Sea Protection Society searches for and removes "ghost nets", which are abandoned fishing nets that contribute towards pollution and harm sea life.
The class organized a fundraiser "restaurant," serving a spaghetti lunch that was prepared by our amazing parent volunteers. Community guests were invited to attend, and students performed all of the duties found in a real restaurant.
Thanks to Kootenay Meadows and Pealow's for donating ingredients to make this fundraiser a success.
