At Canyon-Lister Elementary we are fortunate to have our very own forest right in our school yard. This 2.5 acre green space is fenced on all sides, and students have the opportunity to explore and play in the forest with their classroom teacher in a variety of educational ways. We also have a full size tipi which can accommodate a whole class, and this is where classrooms can gather to learn and play.

Research has shown that children and young people are stimulated by the outdoors and typically experience, over time, an increase in their confidence, learning capacity, enthusiasm, communication and problem-solving skills.
