Our Playground is Open!!

The day has finally arrived; the playground is now open!!  The kids are absolutely beyond themselves with excitement. Every class had a separate time to go out and use the playground today, in addition to recess and lunch breaks.

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who helped this project come to fruition:

Next PAC Meeting (Monday Oct 16 @1:30pm)

Dear CLES Parents/Guardians,

Our next PAC meeting is on Monday October 16th at 1:30pm in the CLES Library (note time change).  We normally have our PAC meetings in the evening but we have had a really low turnout so we’re going to try an afternoon.

We are making a desperate plea for parents to please come to our next meeting.  At our last meeting we only had two parents attend, which is not enough for us to vote and make decisions.

Where troubles melt like lemon drops

What a wonderful way to start the day after a long weekend.  While the seasons rain has rolled in making our feet wet, the rain has also brought a beautiful rainbow!

Playground Update - Volunteers Needed Wed Oct 11th @9am

The woodchips were delivered on Friday October 6th into a giant pile. We are looking for volunteers on Wednesday October 11th at 9:00am, to spread out the existing older woodchips across the entire playground area. Once all the old woodchips are spread, the new woodchips need to be moved and spread into an even top layer.  No special safety equipment needed, but if you have a wheelbarrow or rake to bring, that would be very helpful.

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation Assembly

On Friday September 29th students in Mme Victoria’s class presented about Truth & Reconciliation at our assembly, highlighting the 94 Calls to Action by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.  In addition students at CLES honoured the day by participating in Orange Shirt Day.

Playground update

The playground is almost done; a HUGE THANK YOU to all the parents and community members who came out this past weekend to help erect the structure. There are just a few final touches before it is ready for playing: the concrete supporting the poles needs time to set and we are awaiting the arrival of the wood chips for ground padding.

On September 12th new students and new staff were sorted into their new house teams at the first assembly of the year. Ms. King placed a ‘sorting poncho’ on students to determine which house team they would join.

Superintendent's Report - October 2023

Welcome to the fall. You’ll notice that like the leaves on the trees in late-September and early October, this issue of the Superintendent’s Report looks a bit different than it did a few months ago. The stories in this report are now organized under our five strategic learning priorities from our Strategic Plan 2024-2029. These priorities are lifelong learners, connected learners, a caring and inclusive learning culture, culture and identity development and career development.

Superintendent's Report - September 2023

A warm welcome to September and to the 2023-2024 school year. I am pleased to welcome every one of our more than 4700 students and each family whose child or children have embarked on what may be a first or a next chapter of their educational journey within School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake).

This is an incredibly exciting month for students who may be entering a classroom for the very first time, or entering a new grade, a new program or a new school. “New” is a key word for so much that happens throughout September across our district.
