In 2018-19 we were very fortunate to have an energetic and committed group of parents who worked hard to represent the voice of parents, as well as to fundraise to provide opportunities for our students that they would not otherwise have had.

It is important for all of us to recognize the impact our PAC has had this year. They have raised money through pizza sales, grant applications, hanging flower basket sales, and other efforts, all to the benefit of all the students in the school.

They have also represented parents at district events such as the Facilities Review Meeting at PCSS and the Student Symposium event at the Prestige Resort in Nelson, and provided feedback on the upcoming school district budget through the Thought Exchange site. Additionally, they have provided input and requests for the school district to consider additions to the existing bus route, and encouraged parents to complete the Student Learning Survey for grades 4 and 7.

Skiing support

  • PAC helped to make sure that all students had the opportunity to go skiing this year

A Call for Volunteers/Members!

Our PAC is always looking for parents who would like to join them to help represent parent voices, as well as to help with fundraising events. Parents can help as little or as much as they are able. The Canyon-Lister Elementary PAC meets once a month at school for an hour. You can find the schedule on the school calendar on our website at www.canyon.sd8.bc.ca

Classroom Representatives for September 2019

Next year, we will be looking for a parent representive from each classroom, and this person will help our classroom parents provide feedback and input to PAC so that they are aware of any needs from those grades.

Important Reminders to Parents

Without the efforts of our PAC, our students would not have the opportunities listed above, nor would they have the very popular pizza days! It is very important that all parents understand that if they would like their children to continue to benefit from PAC that there needs to be shared efforts- our PAC is small, and they work to support all students. Please consider ether joining PAC, or putting your name on a list of volunteers who can be called upon for a specific event/fundraiser. If we have a list of parents from all grades, we will have people we can count on to help out for an hour or so a month when needed- and everyone benefits. Call the school at 250-428-4161 or email clerical.canyon@sd8.bc.ca if you would like to put your name forward.

Process for Requesting Funds from PAC

If you would like to request that PAC help to support a school project, please refer to the process below:

  1. Submit a formal request to the school via email, or attend a PAC meeting in person to make the formal request.
  2. Submit your formal request no later than December 15th each year.
  3. PAC will inform you of their decision shortly afterwards.
